Don Harmon

Don Harmon, a native of Oak Park, was first elected to the Illinois Senate in the fall of 2002. He represents the 39th Senate District that covers Oak Park, parts of the city of Chicago and other western suburbs. Three of PACTT’s community-based residences as well as one of our Community Day Services programs lie within Senator Harmon’s district. He has been a strong advocate for equality and rights for all people in Illinois and a staunch ally of PACTT for many years.

In January 2020, Don Harmon was rst elected by his colleagues to serve as the 39th President of the Illinois Senate, vowing to lead a new era of ethical progress as the Senate works to rebuild trust in public service and stabilize the state’s nances. One of his first moves as Senate President was to leave his private sector legal job in order to focus full-time on the Senate and his new leadership post. Over the ensuring years, Harmon’s collaborative work with Governor JB Pritzker and House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch produced a string of six balanced budgets and nine credit upgrades.

Senator Harmon has an undergraduate degree in English and Economics from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and a law degree and MBA from the University of Chicago. Don Harmon is also widely known as a founding member of the Boat Drink Caucus band, a bipartisan group of lawmakers who set aside politics to perform at small venues across the state. He and his wife Teresa reside in Oak Park and are the proud parents of three children.

PACTT proudly honors Don Harmon for helping people with a

developmental disability to be the best version of themselves

Theater on the lake

Since its founding in 1993, PACTT Learning Center has been at the forefront of the movement toward community based and person-centered care for individuals with autism. PACTT was founded to fill a void when no viable alternative existed for the education and care of people with the very highest level of need. Today PACTT operates therapeutic elementary and high schools, a transition program for young adults, two vocational programs for adults, and five group homes for adults and children. PACTT is committed to growing opportunities for a group of people we know that, given a chance, offer their communities a richer and better living experience.

The 24th Annual Work of Heart event will support programs that help to ensure that people with autism are provided the resources necessary to be the best version of themselves. We are asking you to support this year’s event by attending the celebration or becoming a sponsor. With your help, PACTT can continue to be a model program and grow to provide more services for people with autism and their families.
